Depression Anxiety

Arts in Psychotherapy published in 2018 concluded that dancing should be encouraged as part of treatment for people with depression and anxiety.

Berkeley University of California wrote that dancing may also be good for your mood. It has been shown to reduce depression, anxiety, and stress and boost self-esteem, body image, coping ability, and overall sense of well-being, with the benefits lasting over time.

The Study compared tango dancing to mindfulness meditaion and found that both activities reduced depression, but only dancing reduced stress level. In another study, attendance was higher with waltzing than conventional exercise. The researchers stated that dance is a form of exercise in which movement, social interaction, and fun are mixed together.

Health Benefits

Many studies have found that dancing can improve balance, even in frail elderly people. Some have shown improvements in gait, walking speed, and reaction time, as well as cognitive and fine motor performance. According to a review in the European Journal of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in 2009, dancing may help people with Parkinson's disease, which is characterized by rigid muscles, slowed movement, and impaired balance.

Obesity Prevention

Americans of all ages are increasingly stressed. Additionally, our country has grown less physically active, which has lead to an epidemic of chronic health conditions. Obesity is one of them even among our youth. Berkeley University of California found one study that concluded dancing helped control emotional eating in obese women who eat as a response to stress.

Weight gain around abdomen and thinning muscles are a sign of hormone imbalance and toxicity. Therefore, middle age exercise is very important.

Embrace dance as a lifelong path to health. Dancing makes us feel so good that we often forget how advantageous dancing is for our health. While our pains and stress melt away, so does our bodyline.
